Rwandan Community in Mozambique Makes Donations to Flood Victims

The Rwandan community in Mozambique made donations on Monday (02) to support victims of the floods that affected several regions of the country. The contributions included clothing, food products, and hygiene items aimed at assisting families who lost their belongings due to the disaster.

The handover ceremony took place in Maputo, where essential goods such as flour, cornmeal, and baby clothing were distributed. The donations were voluntarily collected by members of the Rwandan community as a gesture of solidarity with the affected families.

Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing that the gesture went beyond material assistance.

“This gesture conveys a message of unity and fraternity between our peoples. We deeply appreciate the Rwandan community for this demonstration of humanity,” the minister said.

The Rwandan High Commissioner to Mozambique, Donat Ndamage, highlighted the importance of standing in solidarity during difficult times.

“We cannot remain indifferent to the pain of our Mozambican brothers. When they suffer, we also suffer. We are here to help and to demonstrate that our solidarity is genuine,” he stated.

Also present at the event, Rui Costa, representative of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD), expressed appreciation for the contribution.

“Any support received at this moment is essential. The help from the Rwandan community will be of great benefit to the affected families,” he said.

The initiative, driven by voluntary contributions from members of the Rwandan community, reinforced the spirit of solidarity between Mozambique and Rwanda and reaffirmed the commitment of both peoples to mutual support in times of need.
